Composed of various assembled elements, this classically shaped vase is inspired by the 1905 painting “Acrobat and Little Harlequin” by Pablo Picasso. Beautiful is the contrast between the pensive, melancholic adult figure and the slight silhouette of a small, dreamy Harlequin dressed in the traditional colourful costume.
The form and the choice of materials are intended to express the analogous contrast: the rigidity of the two chrome plates meets the fragility of the mosaic, just as the classical form, rendered by highly technological means, is combined with the vibrations of coloured glass. The object takes the idealised form of a vase, composed of three metal elements, i.e. two detached plates and a blue-coloured central one.
Project realised on the occasion of the “Picasso was 1 designer” event in December 2008.
